# Salicylic Acid (BHA): Benefits for Skin and Scalp Salicylic acid is an oil-soluble exfoliant that helps loosen dead-cell buildup on the skin surface and inside oily pores. ## In simple terms Salicylic acid is a beta hydroxy acid that is soluble in oil. In skincare it helps loosen compacted surface cells and material within oily pores; in scalp and body products it can help lift scale or rough buildup.
